Don’t let cold weather stop you; winter is a great time to take family portraits, both indoors and out. If you’re getting ready for a shoot, here are three great colours that work well for a winter family portrait photography session.
Wear Grey for Calgary Photography
Grey is a wonderful choice for a Calgary photography session. You can mix and match different shades and add pops of colour with a couple of additional colours. It also provides a good neutral background for adding exciting accessories like hats, scarves, jewellery, and shoes. Accessories are a great choice for photography sessions and give your pictures a personal touch.
Try Blue for Portrait Photography
Blue looks good on almost everyone and is a great choice for winter portraits. There are so many directions you can go with blue: choose light blues for a cooler, snowy feel; navy paired with rich, warm colour for a cozier feel; or bright turquoise for a pop of colour. Avoid the temptation to all match by wearing jeans though; the goal is to coordinate colour, not wear the same thing for your portrait photography session.
Go Bold for Calgary Photographers with Red
Red is a favourite for winter photography. It stands out so beautifully against the cold winter background and is festive for the holiday season. Be careful not to overdo it with red; a little goes a long way. Instead, use it mostly as an accent colour with one person wearing most of the red. A red sweater on one family member with accents on the others looks great. If you’re worried you have too much red, then bring options and ask your Calgary photographers for advice.
