Creative Mason Jar Life Hacks...

For my first blog post, I've decided to tackle a topic I'm sure most of you don't know much about. Mason jars are obviously excellent for preserves, but as an on-the-go and trendy gal, I try to be original and prefer these jars for more exciting and interesting uses. I'm also a Pisces, and we tend to think abstract and come up with extremely innovative ideas.

Mason jars come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors, so before you begin, consult some color psychology books and decide which is best for you.

I've selected green because of it's meaning of balance and harmony.

I've come up with eight practical uses for my own mason jar. Hopefully they will be as helpful for you as they we're for me.

8. Pen holder

My desk is always cluttered with my writing implements and scrap-booking materials. Try to make your life more organized by using a mason jar to hold your pens.

7. Pencil holder

My desk is always cluttered with my writing implements and scrap-booking materials. Try to make your life more organized by using a mason jar to hold your pencils.

6. Twig vase

Bring the outdoors inside with this creative idea! Grab some old twigs from the yard or around town to put in the mason jar. Now you have a vase! You can place the vase on a desk or table in clear view so people and guests can respect your alternative lifestyle. My twigs we're carefully selected from trees in front of my favorite hot yoga studio, my local thrift store, and Anthropologie

5. Flower vase

If twigs aren't rustic enough for you, feel free to substitute the twigs for flowers. Be sure to select wild flowers and not farm-raised flowers. I've instead used hand-carved wooden flowers because I'm more woodsy and rough around the edges than real flowers.

4. Pet water cup

You don't want your kids drinking from plastic, so why should your pets have to suffer? My cat enjoys drinking her water from the mason jar. Sometimes I'll even add a bit of catnip that I grew in the garden to spice things up for my kitty.

3. Human drinking cup

You know that trendy garden party you're going to next weekend? Bring your own mason jar to drink out of. Not only will the host appreciate your effort to go green by bringing your own cup, you'll also be able to easily seal your drink to prevent spills. Plus, it's a lovely conversation piece if you have trouble in social situations.

2. Self-defense tool

A sharp Alex And Ani bracelet can only do so much to protect yourself. Carry a mason jar in your tote during the day so if you're walking home late at night you can easily slip one onto your fist and prepare for the worst. This tip especially works with #3 so you can bring your own drink to a party then wear the jar when heading home just in case.

1. Gift!

Everyone wants a mason jar and everyone wants to make something out of one! They are safe to use and perfectly rustic for that much desired artisan style you're going for. Ball jars, which are what I used, are still made in the USA so you don't have to worry about sweatshop labor!
